Refugees
SHAP can offer specialist support to any person who has Leave to Remain in the UK as a refugee and aged 16 to 60 years old.
Each person is allocated a Support Worker who they must meet with on a regular basis. The support can last for as long as the person and their Support Worker feels that is needed up to a maximum of 2 years.
Support will be offered for any issues that the person has such as finding accommodation, budgeting, benefits and acquiring furniture. We will also refer people to other agencies who can offer help on other issues such as education and training.
Making a Referral
Referrals can be made by an agency or an individual during office hours. Many young people choose to refer themselves by coming to one of our Resource Access Point Sessions.
All referrals are placed on a waiting list, which can be lengthy at times. Whilst on the waiting list, young people can attend our Resource Access Point sessions in order to get support with urgent issues such as accommodation.
Young People on the waiting list are asked to let SHAP know of any changes in their circumstances. Once their name is near the top of the waiting list we will make contact with them about this. If we cannot make contact due changes in address or phone numbers then they will be taken off the waiting list.
SHAP has access to interpreters in a number of languages and also uses a Language Line service.
